Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is a highly evolved system of healing that was developed in China several thousand years ago. It is based on the concept that laws of nature can be used to understand the inner workings of the body. Like the universe, our health is subject to opposite forces such as heat and cold, masculine and feminine, joy and sadness. Imbalances in our bodies manifest themselves as diseases. They block the flow of energy (chi) traveling through our bodies. Acupuncture, acupressure, and herbs can help unblock the chi and bring the body into harmony and wellness. Acupuncture . . . is a therapeutic technique intended to promote health and well-being by re-balancing the body. The technique involves gentle insertion of very fine sterile needles into "acupuncture points". Most people find the treatments deeply relaxing and rejuvenating. Acupressure . . . is a non-needle technique which can be used in place of acupuncture treatment. Selection of pressure points is based on the same principles as acupuncture.
. . . refers to the use of plants and other medicinal substances. It is used in conjunction with acupuncture and acupressure to harmonize and strengthen systems in the body. Nutritional and Lifestyle Counseling . . . clarifies to patients the effects of the foods and habits they choose. This is a very tangible way that patients can augment and contribute to their treatment.
